Lora René Tucker, Brooklyn born and educated, is a non-fiction writer, poet and essayist. Raised in Howard Beach, Queens, she now lives and thrives in Sag Harbor, NY. Her previous “nine to fives” were a corporate interior designer, credentialed alcohol and drug counselor, and licensed social worker and psychotherapist.

Her poetry has been featured throughout the New York metropolitan area since 1992 and has over 40 years advocating for racial and social justice; teaching on the master’s level classes in diversity, racism, oppression. and privilege. She has been featured and published in noteworthy venues such as: The Write America Podcast, The Easthampton Star “GuestWords,” Canio’s Bookstore, “The Church” in Sag Harbor, the Knitting Factory, African Voices, and Brooklyn Poets.

Known as the “Therapeutic Poet,” Lora facilitates workshops in poetry therapy, speaking and participating in professional seminars, and facilitating mental health and racial justice workshops. She also has blogged for publications including POZ online magazine and Harlem World. Since settling in Sag Harbor, Lora co-facilitated a wellness workshop for the Parrish Museum, was involved in racial justice seminars with Canio’s bookstore, and facilitated film discussions titled “Tough Talk” at the John Jermaine Memorial Library.

Studying for her MFA in Creative Writing at Stonybrook University/ Southampton; her thesis is on her search for her father’s patriotic contributions as a Tuskegee Airman. She twice received the Sarah Martell Award for mid-career women who are returning to academia. She served as a research assistant for the Pulitzer-prize winner, Paul Harding. Currently she is the poetry editor for African Voices literary magazine and conducts therapeutic poetry/writing workshops for Stonybrook Hospital’s Wellness Center.

Brooklyn born and educated, Howard Beach, Queens raised, Lora René Tucker has been featured throughout the New York Metropolitan area since 1992. Also known as the “Therapeutic Poet,” she published her first book of poetry: Writes of Passage, blogged for Harlem World and POZ online magazines, performed readings of her work, and facilitated antiracism and cultural empowerment seminars. She presently is facilitating therapeutic writing workshops for Southampton Hospital’s Wellness Center and her editorials can be found in the East Hampton Star’s “GuestWords.” She is also studying for her MFA in Creative Writing at Stonybrook University, twice receiving awards for returning to academia after years and to research her father’s military history for her thesis. Her past “nine to fives” were a corporate interior designer, graduate professor, and licensed social worker and psychotherapist. She is a writer until further notice.
